Burbage Update: Going on Holiday, Are You Secure? Selling Items Online?

Hello Resident,

Thank you for being part of Neighbourhood Link, we are trying to get more residents signed up so if you know anyone that isn't but would like to be, point them in my direction or to https://www.neighbourhoodlink.co.uk/ . Thank you.

Following the few incidents of crime in Burbage this week (a residential burglary and vehicle theft), I will be at the Millennium Hall this Saturday morning (17th June) until early afternoon with our crime prevention items (sold at cost). If you are planning on going on holiday PLEASE consider home security. Jewellery and cash are often the targeted items at properties that look empty. The majority of burglaries in Burbage have been whilst people are on holiday. We have window alarms, sensor alarms, fence spikes and much that are great visual deterrents for opportunistic criminals.

Neighbourhood Link has upgraded this week so we hope it has gone smoothly for you. If you are having any problems reading the messages, logging in, rating or replying then please drop me an email to darrren.stretton@leics.police.uk Thank you very much for the ratings, they are really appreciated and it is good to know people find the messages useful.

Out on patrols including Pennant Road, Highgrove Close, Grove Park and Lucas Road amongst others. Very hot out but some beautiful gardens about.

We may all be aware of criminals contacting us trying to scam money whether this be by phone, email or other ways but this week I have spoken to a resident who was actually selling an item on Facebook Marketplace and could have got scammed.

This works by someone offering to purchase your item but then stating they will send the money via a delivery service and you give them the product. They will then claim you need to pay a charge for the service, at this point they will ask for your bank details and probably empty your bank account. Please be very careful around who you give your name, address and contact details to online. Never give out your bank details. There is some really good support on citizens advice via the link https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/scams/check-if-something-might-be-a-scam/

Message from resident

"Yesterday, we had an unannounced visit from Severn Trent to carry out a random water sample check on our kitchen water supply.

As a result, we wondered if it would be worthwhile highlighting the Severn Trent password scheme that can be used to identify bogus callers."
