Beware of Rogue Traders in Glen Parva

In recent weeks we have received a couple of reports about rogue traders operating in Glen Parva. These individuals often pose as legitimate tradespeople, offering services such as roofing, driveway repairs, or gardening at seemingly attractive prices. However, once payment is made, they frequently do substandard work or disappear altogether alternativley they could charge well above the agreed price when paying with a card.

To protect yourself from falling victim to these scams, here are some prevention tips:

Be Wary of Unsolicited Offers: If someone knocks on your door offering services, be cautious. Legitimate tradespeople rarely operate in this manner.

Verify Credentials: Always ask for identification and verify it by contacting the company they claim to represent. Look for established reviews and testimonials.

Get Multiple Quotes: Before agreeing to any work, obtain quotes from several different companies. This will give you a better idea of fair pricing.

Avoid Upfront Payments: Never pay the full amount for services upfront. A reputable tradesperson will not require large sums before completing the work.

Consult with Neighbours: Talk to neighbours about their experiences and recommendations. Community word-of-mouth can be a valuable resource.

Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect a rogue trader is operating in your area, report it to the police and trading standards.

As an added measure, we have 'No Doorstep Caller' window stickers available at Braunstone Police Station. Displaying one of these stickers can deter potential rogue traders from approaching your home.
