About

Neighbourhood Link is a free, e-mail messaging service for people who live and work in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. It’s managed by Leicestershire Police and used by our partner organisations such as Action Fraud and Neighbourhood Watch. You are in complete control of the information and messaging you receive, and you can change these settings at any time.

The product we use to run Neighbourhood Link is called Neighbourhood Alert, developed by VISAV.

Why should I sign up?

Our communities play a crucial part in helping us prevent and detect crime and anti-social behaviour. By signing up to Neighbourhood Link, you’ll receive email alerts about crime in your area, witness appeals, general policing activity and any scams you should be aware of. Receiving messages from a trusted source allows you to share reliable messages with friends and family in your local area to help keep them safe too.

How can I sign up?

Signing up to Neighbourhood Link is free, quick and simple. You’ll be able to choose what you want to receive email alerts about and how often. It’s easy to use and you’ll only receive messages about topics that you’ve selected. You can change your preferences or decide to stop receiving messages at any time.

Can I reply to email alerts?

Yes, we welcome your comments. By clicking on the ‘reply’ link within the message you can send a reply to the person who sent the message. Please be aware, you should not report crime in this way. Report online or by calling 101, always call 999 in an emergency.

Do you read the email replies?

Yes, all emails are read and appropriately actioned. Please be aware that sometimes we will not reply, for example, if we receive information that you would simply like to pass on to us for our attention. You may not hear from us directly, however, please be assured that everything you send us is reviewed.

Can I forward or print out Neighbourhood Link messages and share with friends and family?

The emails you receive are not confidential so we would encourage you to share our messages amongst your local community. We do advise that you remove any personal details you do not wish to share.

We would also welcome you to introduce friends, family and neighbours to the messaging system and encourage them to sign up to Neighbourhood Link too.

Does Neighbourhood Link replace Neighbourhood Watch?

No, this does not replace any Neighbourhood Watch schemes, we are hopeful the system can complement existing schemes and initiatives. Neighbourhood Link is connected to the national Neighbourhood Watch ‘Our Watch’ system and will improve the way police and Watch schemes are able to communicate and support each other.

Can I report crime by email?

Will you share my details with other agencies?

During the registration process and when filling in your 'administration' area, you will have the opportunity to review and select additional licensed information providers who will, if authorised by you, be able to see your data and send you messages. If you change your mind, you can add or remove any information provider at any time.

Why do you ask for a contact telephone number?

The Neighbourhood Link system allows us to send messages by telephone and text services, however, we will only be communicating with you regularly via email, so it’s important you include an email address or you won’t receive any messages from us.

We will only contact you via your mobile or telephone number in very rare occasions. For example, if we need to contact you in an emergency. If your email address becomes unavailable or invalid, you may be contacted by an Alert Coordinator.

No, other subscribers cannot see any of your details.

Can I change my details if I move home or change my email address?
