Dear resident,
This week is HATE CRIME week which means that officers are raising awareness about hate crime.
A hate incident is behaviour that isn’t a crime but is perceived that way by the victim, or anybody else, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on the 5 protected characteristics.
The 5 protected characteristics are: Race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability.
A hate crime can include verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, harassment, assault, and damage to property.
Examples of this can be, assault that has also been motivated by homophobic or racist language. Or crimes directed at a person with a disability, because of their disability.
If you witness or experience a hate crime, there are multiple ways to let us know. You can report via our website http://leicspolice.link/ZaLis or by calling 999 if it's an emergency. You can also report to your local council or anonymously via the Crimestoppers website: http://leicspolice.link/yzBe9
Stay safe,
Your Oadby and Wigston Beat Team | ||||
