Update

Good afternoon,

in relation to yesterdays update, we understand the two reported incidents of children being approached has caused some concerns in the community, so I wanted to provide some further information and clarification.

The two reports have been reviewed by local officers and are not being treated as linked. The descriptions given in the reports are different for each incident.

A man who is reported to have asked two boys to come over to his vehicle on Friday 25 October has been identified. He has been spoken to by police and while there were no criminal offences identified, he has been given words of advice in relation to how his behaviour may have been perceived. The parents and the children involved in this incident have been updated.

In relation to the incident in Pasley Road on Friday 1 November, a man is reported to have walked towards a girl, before she has run off to her group of friends. Officers have spoken to the girl and no offences have been disclosed.

I appreciate the children concerned have been left distressed by these incidents and there has been some community concern, however I would like to reassure that we do not believe the incidents to be linked and no offences have taken place.

All three children involved in these reports attend secondary schools in the South Leicester area. We are currently liaising with all schools to ensure any concerns or information is provided directly to police.

If you have any concerns, please speak to your local beat officers by visiting our website.
