Burbage Police Newsletter December 2024

Hello Resident,

We hope you are well. We are no longer issuing our monthly newsletter as a PDF attachment. It should show below hopefully. We hope this change makes it easier for people to open/view the update, which will show you our priorities as requested by Burbage residents, and give you a summary of events for the previous month.

We would like to also make you aware of a report of attempts to use fake £20 notes in Burbage over recent days. Please be mindful of this, especially if you run a business. You can find out more information on fake notes here. How to check your banknotes | Bank of England

A Renault Master van has been stolen from the Sketchley Industrial estate sometime between 10:00 on the 30th and 19:30 on the 1st. We attended a report of suspicious person on the building site on Lutterworth road. Officers attended and thankfully it was the security guard. A silver Mercedes made off from officers at 05:25 on the morning of the 30th on Sapcote Road, investigations are continuing to deal with this vehicle but if nothing else, hopefully the Police presence prevented any crime.

Here is a summary of crime and Local policing activity for November in Burbage.

Welcome to our monthly update for the residents and communities of the Burbage Neighbourhood Policing Area. This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaid - What matters to you

We have listened to you and the concerns you raised and prioritised the following:

Priority 1: Anti-Social Behaviour (Halloween and Bonfire Night)

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Following several issues during the summer, concerns relating to possible issues around Halloween where this type of behaviour can historically be an issue. School holidays and seasonal events can also increase reports at this time of year. We have worked with local businesses, schools and partner agencies to address sporadic reports. This work includes home visits, using the anti-social behaviour incremental approach, Safeguarding work and completing preventative work based on historic issues.

Priority 2: Residential Burglary

During the darker nights, an increase in residential burglary is historically seen during the winter months. Burglary is an offence that has a huge impact on the victim and raises concerns for local residents. We are completing targeted patrols which include stop checks, we act upon information from residents to target crime, and we have organised and attended crime prevention events to support residents. This includes home visits as requested by residents who have asked for support around home security advice/items.

Priority 3: Vehicle Crime

Vehicle crime can increase during the winter. Theft of personal belongings left in vehicles and theft of vehicles can increase due to increased opportunities due to increased opportunities. We are working with local businesses to reduce risk of crime such as theft from vehicles. Along with late night patrols, we also provide our regular updates to residents around crime which raises awareness and hopefully supports in reducing incidents. RFID wallets, steering locks and the use of gates/bollards are all great deterrents during the winter months.

#WeDid - What we are doing

  • During November, there was a decrease in reports of Residential Burglary. One report from Aldridge Road and a theft of items from shed on Lutterworth Road. We have continued with targeted patrols in the area. Officers have had some great results regarding stop checks which have resulted in arrests for a range of offences. We have also collected lots of information and CCTV from the area which all supports in the wider work around taking action and identifying those involved.
  • Reports of theft from vehicles has been minimal during November. A couple of reports from hotel car parks (theft of tools from vans) and the incident on the 14th of November where two males were in the area checking car doors. We re-united a stolen bicycle with its owner and collected lots of CCTV in order to try and identify those involved. We have visited businesses which are being targeted for this type of crime and looked at ways of preventing crime such as theft of diesel and tools. Hopefully our regular and timely information to residents also reduces opportunities for opportunistic criminals as residents continue to do the basics such as locking doors, removing items from vehicles etc.
  • Reports of Anti-social Behaviour this month have been mainly around neighbour disputes. We will always try to resolve issues and address any illegal/anti-social behaviour. We work with partner agencies such as HBBC to resolve complaints as Police are not always the relevant agency. We have also visited schools as requested to address other concerns raised.
