#YouSaid - What matters to you

Priority 1 - Our business community have expressed that theft from their stores is a problem in the City Centre.

Priority 2 - During the darker nights you want to feel safe when commuting, shopping and enjoying the night life.

Priority 3 - Anti-social behaviour caused by students and youths during the darker evenings and at key dates such as Halloween and Bonfire night increases.

#WeDid - What we are doing

Priority 1

-Over the last 3 month period we have charged perpetrators for over a 130 offences of shop theft.

-Our PCSO's have been completing Christmas shopping patrols in key shopping areas including, Haymarket, Highcross, St Martins, Hight St, Humberstone Gate, Gallowtree Gate.

-Tailored visits have been conducted at Lush, Boots, Specsavers and Primark in the city centre. During these visits we discuss best practice, how to prevent and deter retail crime, CCTV positioning, store layout/product placement, crime trends and what support is available for retailers.

-We have secured 2 criminal behaviour orders against prolific offenders placing strict control measures on them.

Priority 2

- For this priority we deployed Operation OVERSEE, this operation aims to promote safety during the night-time economy – specifically focusing on licensed premises.

- During the operation enhanced licensing checks at pubs, bars, clubs and off-licences within our policing area are conducted to uphold the licensing objectives and ensure venues are operating in accordance with their license. Drug wipes are utilised within the premise. Any premise found to be operating in breach is dealt with via a case by case including which could result in a license review being conducted.

- SIA door supervisors are checked against the SIA database to ensure they are operating legally. Breaches are reported to the SIA as the lead agency.

- PCSO’s are deployed with the beat bus at a key NTE location to engage with the public and promote safety, promote the ‘Ask Angela’ campaign, discuss spiking and hand out anti-spiking devises and promote and similar or new campaigns relevant.

-We have worked with community safety to install new locks at Angel Gateway preventing access to the location during the darker evenings.

Priority 3

- Our ongoing work at this location with the student accommodations has resulted in a huge decrease in ASB and related crime.

- There has been a uplift in security who are now present at key times and increased in numbers.

- One of the sites has installed new fob access doors, more secure perimeter fencing and the installation of bollards to prevent vehicle related ASB.

- Regular high visibility patrols have been conducted.

- 9 perpetrators of ASB have been started on the ASB incremental approach.

- 3 persons arrested following disorder at the location with fireworks.
