Police: Priority Update - Road Safety

Tisโ€™ the seasonโ€ฆ to take care and drive to the conditions! โ„๏ธ ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ

The driver of the blue vehicle the wrong way up had a very lucky escape today, thankfully they are not seriously injured. Clearly as you can see from how the vehicle ended up, things could have been much worse ๐Ÿš™

Thank you to all of the emergency services who attended for their fantastic work on scene as always โ€“ Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service crews from both Oakham and Melton, as well as East Midlands Ambulance Service and The Helimed Critical Care Doctors and Pilot ๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿš‘ ๐Ÿš ๐Ÿš“

Thank you also to the brilliant community that we have in Rutland of passers-by who stopped and did what they could to help before the emergency services arrived, you lot are fab! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿค

In order to safely extract the driver from the vehicle the fire service had to cut the roof open, fortunately the driver was able to walk onto the ambulance ๐Ÿ‘

Separately - The driver of the little red car (picture below) hit a spot of ice on a country back road whilst on their early morning commute. The good news is that they are okay as well ๐Ÿš—

However, both of these incidents are stark reminders to always drive to the road conditions, remember itโ€™s a speed limit, not a speed target and the speed that is safe to drive may differ depending on many different factors ๐ŸŽ๏ธ ๐Ÿšซ ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ โ„๏ธ ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ ๐ŸŒ… ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Just a polite note โ€“ I went out to the little red car because a passer-by called it in as a concern, rightly so. There was no one with the vehicle. So, I went out to the registered keeper for a safe and well check. If you do have an unfortunate accident where your vehicle does end up off the road, but you are okay, not injured, not trapped, not in a live carriageway, there's no danger and you donโ€™t require immediate emergency assistance... Then please, just give us a quick call on 101 to let us know once youโ€™ve safely arrived home. It could save us needing to rush out to the vehicle on blue lights when itโ€™s not needed and then trying to track you down to make sure youโ€™re okay. Obviously, if you do have an accident and do need immediate assistance โ€“ always phone 999 ๐Ÿšจ

(Finally โ€“ to avoid speculation, as it seems to always come up in the comments. The sticker on the bonnet of the blue vehicle is for safety, to indicate that some of the airbags in the vehicle havenโ€™t deployed and the battery has been disconnected).

Take care Rutland and as always, drive safe! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
