Hello Resident,
The Burbage Beat Team would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas. We hope it is peaceful, happy, and crime free for you. We thank you for being part of Neighbourhood link and the support we often get from Burbage residents throughout the year.
Reported Crime and Appeals
Occasionally, there can be incidents in Burbage which are either not primarily a Police incident, or it may not be appropriate to comment on. We will always do our best locally to ensure you are informed of local incidents that are of a community concern.
Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement
There have been a few road traffic incidents over the last ten days which have required Police attendance, in and around Burbage. As the colder and wet/icy weather draws in, please ensure you do the obvious such as check lights are all working, give yourself an extra few minutes to clear windows before you set off, and be extra careful around junctions on fast roads. Split second decisions can be lifechanging.
Burbage and Hinckley Police have been completing some work in the area over recent days which has got some good results. This includes work around drug dealing in the Bridge Road/train station area of Burbage. Arrest made and vehicle seized on Rugby Road for possession of class A drugs with intent to supply. We have also been completing door to door/CCTV checks relating to the theft of vehicle.
We have been completing home visits as requested by residents to support with items such as window alarms and light times. We have been communicating with residents and partner agencies around concerns raised that are not primarily Police issues but offer support to resolve these issues.
Patrols include areas such as Atkins Way and Brookside area as well as Woodland Avenue and Salisbury Road areas. We also spoke to residents and completed patrols/leaflet drops around Slate Drive, Navy Close, Ruby Close, Amber way estates and Azalea Drive/Hanover Court. Out and about on Atkins Way. Think Santa needs to get me a better phone camera for next year. Some lovely lights and displays around Burbage this year.
Crime prevention and issues to be aware of
Based on historic crime figures, January and February can see reports of vehicle crime, in particular Land Rover Range Rovers. If you own these types of vehicles, or keyless/high value vehicles, please ensure you have RFID wallets, use steering locks, use gates or bollards if you have them. As recent vehicle crime over the last 12 months has been due to breaks to the back of property to get keys, please ensure you are using house alarms and/or items such as window alarms, fence cactus spikes etc. I have attached our crime reduction catalogue for you to look through. Pop me an email if you want anything (sold at cost). Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk
We continue to get sporadic reports regarding scams, these types of reports vary from attempts to actual loss. Relevant issues include an incident where a resident has sold an item online, sent the item, the payment was pending (PayPal) but then never cleared. The victim ultimately lost the cost of postage and the cost of the item. Please be extra vigilant when selling and buying items online. Please be mindful over Christmas and the New year as there are typically lots of sales, some of these may be scams.
Scam letter received by resident where he was informed, he was the beneficiary of a large amount of money from someone in Japan. Whilst the contents of the letter received was laughably bad, it is clear scammers will use tactics such as current events to gain your interest and try to make the scam more believable. These tactics can be used via email, actual letters, social media posts or phone calls. Please just delete, hang up or bin. Do not engage with these people.
Thank you and take care.
