Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Melton Rural South Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaid - What matters to you
Andy and I will set our beat priorities for your policing area using the following; beat surgerys, school visits, general chats with the public, feedback via Facebook and feedback via Neighbourhood Link surveys.
Our priorities for the next month will be:
DRUGS – drugs is mentioned routinely by residents as an area for us to tackle and is evidenced by information coming to police and from our local authorities. We will continue to work with local authorities to evict tenants using drugs and to catch and deal with those using / dealing.
RURAL CRIME – our beat is largely rural and thefts from residents and businesses have a huge impact. Farm equipment thefts, hare coursing, church lead thefts and heritage crime are a few of the problems reported to us recently. The majority of organised offences hit our rural communities.
ROAD SAFETY – this has been a continuous priority for the Rural South Beat over the years. A large proportion of demand for police on this beat is road related; collisions, speeding, injuries on the road, dangerous road blockages and debris and criminal use of the road which links to rural crime.
#WeDid - What we are doing
DRUGS:
This month Police have gathered and processed 7 intelligence reports relating to local issues.
We have worked very closely with Melton Borough Council's Safer Communities Team, Housing Team and private Lettings Agencies to take action against residents that are causing people's quality of life to deteriorate.
We have conducted hours of patrols across the beat targetting areas known to be used for smoking cannabis or dealing
RURAL CRIME:
This month there has been only one report of a Rural theft / burglary on the beat - we hope to keep these numbers low going forward.
PCSO French and I conduct regular patrols across the rural areas of the beat. We have made it our business to stop and check vehicles travelling on our road network that are vulnerable to theft and target suspicious activity day and night.
The Rural Policing Team for Melton and Rutland continue to do their great work in keeping the crimes figures down - please continue to support them.
ROAD SAFETY:
This month there have been 3 x recorded Road Traffic Collisions- meaning that they involved either an offence, an injury or damage. This is a relatively low figure for this month however this does not take into account the dozens of collisions that are not attended or attended by police and doe not require a police investigation.
This month we also participated in a planned Roads Policing operation designed to enforce traffic law and reduce road casualties. PC 3009 Tranter utilised a day of heavy fog to educate drivers, stopping 12 drivers in just an hour or so using an unmarked police vehicle.
