Weekly Update

Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Morning, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages.

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

  • High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas
  • On 16/12, PCSO 6098 conducted a beat engagement in the evening at the village hall in East Goscote. Many of the local residents came to the engagement to raise local concerns and issues including ASB and speeding with vehicles, which the beat team are now aware of and will be dealing with.
  • On 18/12, PCSO 6024 was invited to the Suhradam Hindu Swaminarayan Temple in Thurmaston, for a Christmas celebration event. It was fantastic to meet so many of the community and to come together to celebrate.
  • Over the past few weeks, the local beat team has increased the amount of foot patrols around Thurmaston retail park engaging with local residents and shop managers, due to it being a busier location during the Christmas period. The local beat team has also been collecting CCTV and helping with any enquiries in relation to thefts that have been taking place at the location.
  • Officers have also been conducting further speed checks in Syston due to reports of speeding along certain roads. This time we conducted checks on FosseWay as this was highlighted a real issue for speeding vehicles on the beat.
  • The beat team have been conducting burglary patrols around the NL61 beat, which consists of evening foot and marked car patrols throughout the villages in the residential areas. This is due to an overall increase in burglaries during the winter period. For crime prevention advice please visit the Leicestershire police website!
  • This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.

     Our Priorities

The community have stated that ASB is a concern within The Charnwood East area. Patrols have continued regarding areas highlighted as having ABS concerns. Particular attention has been paid to the locations of Checkland Road, Central Park Syston, and East Goscote. Perpetrators in East Goscote have been identified and engaged with and given words of advice. Patrols will continue in areas identified with issues of ASB.

The community has also stated that speeding and parking issues are a concern at various locations throughout the Charnwood East area. We continue to work with partner agencies regarding issues of parking and speeding within the Charnwood East area asking for the camera car to enforce parking restrictions in areas highlighted to us. Plans are in place to conduct speed checks in areas raised as a concern.

    And finally ……..

There has been a recent increase in residential burglaries within Charnwood East area. Currently the affected areas for burglaries are the villages across the A6 corridor. High visibility Patrols have been conducted in areas that have been targeted with burglaries. The Beat team will continue regular patrols and assist with enquiries for investigations.
