#YouSaid - What matters to you
Our Current 3 Priorities listed are the following, based on information from yourselves such as surveys, data based on recent reports and our own patrols:
Dealing with the Production of Class B Drugs on the area (Cannabis Grows)
- In addition to tackling the use and supply of both Class A and Class B Drugs in areas where this is having detrimental effects on the local community.
Addressing Anti-Social Behaviour across the Beat
- Such as parking issues, neighbour issues, criminal damage, misuse of footpaths and pavements or littering/dog fouling.
Acquisitive Crime such as Burglaries or Robberies
- We are working to bring down the levels of acquisitive crimes being reported including offences such as Robberies, Burglaries, Theft from/Of Motor Vehicles.
#WeDid - What we are doing
Dealing with Production of Class B Drugs on the area (Cannabis Grows)
Following on from our November update we are still wrapping up loose ends on information discovered from our two previous Cannabis Grow Warrants. More information has been developed as always towards other potential addresses being used but please keep reports coming through if you believe you have seen anything suspicious. Our team have helped to create an Operation designed to target and eliminate Cannabis Grows and the associated Criminality, which will help to streamline our methods as well as help teach them to other parts of Leicester and potentially wider parts of the Country.
For those not entirely aware, Cannabis Grows are where a property or part of a property has been converted into a space for the growing of Cannabis Plants. The electricity will be illegally altered at the mains in order for the Criminals to hijack large amounts of electricity without paying for it which also results in a potential fire hazard. Large quantities of the plants will be grown over a time period of several months with multiple cycles usually being completed, unless we find them first! They require a large amount of equipment such as plant pots, light bulbs, battery packs, aluminium foil and fans. If you see any deliveries being made in the middle of the night, often hear humming noises or feel heat coming through your neighbours walls or can often smell cannabis on your street or local area then please let us know!
With regards to Class A Drugs on 17/12/24 we arrested a male suspected of dealing Class A in and around the Tudor Road area. This male was processed through custody with a positive disposal outcome.
Addressing Anti-Social Behaviour on the Beat
For those who may have heard this phrase, Anti-Social Behaviour (also known as ASB) means behaviour from an individual or group that is likely to cause alarm, harassment and/or distress towards others. This type of behaviour can include neighbour disputes, youths causing issues around retail stores or in parks, parking disputes, littering and many many more.
During December we have seized a number of vehicles from across the Ward, particularly in the Kate Street area, utilising DVLA powers where we can to solve issues. Throughout our shifts we ensure we are conducting high visibility, on foot patrols around our parks and open spaces to help reduce and prevent ASB. On Thursday 18th December a join agency inspection took place on Bonchurch Street with the view of permanently solving the issue with Criminal Damage and ASB towards For-Hire vans located in that area. We have seen a great decrease in the amount of issues occurring regarding this as compared with earlier in the year.
We have been spending time patrolling outside schools during open and closing times after reports of parents parking dangerously when dropping off or picking up their children. Whilst the majority of situations can be dealt with through words of advice, we can issue motorists with Fixed Penalty Notices or Section 59 Warnings if needed, you may also spot the occasional Traffic Warden patrolling around too, so beware! ‘I'm just here for a few minutes’ is not an excuse to park dangerously and obstruct other peoples view from safely crossing the road!
Myself and other Police Community Support Officers are still working away with multiple Neighbour Issue Reports, helping to mediate between different parties where able or delivering advice/warning letters in line with our Incremental Approach if necessary instead. Often we will create reports using a joint system with Leicester City Council in order to liaise with different teams such as the Community Safety Team, Housing Officers and more.
Acquisitive Crime such as Burglaries or Robberies
Acquisitive Crime is a term used to describe a wide range of offences such as shoplifting, burglary, theft and robbery. The term refers to crime where an offender's primary goal is to obtain money, goods, or other valuables through unlawful actions. As Neighbourhood Officers we do our best to help complete inquiries for reports that have been made in addition to completing High-Visibility Patrols in areas that are being targeted by Criminals.
- Part of our duty as Police Community Support Officers is assisting our Detectives by completing follow ups such as door knocks and CCTV checks around victim locations for Burglaries. We also help the victim(s) by completing Safeguarding Reports or Referrals if needed and have a handy collection of window alarms and personal attack alarms to provide some re-assurance.
- We are happy to report that during December we have so far only received one report of a Burglary at a store on Hinckely Road where inquiries are already well underway. There have been no reports of any robberies occurring and the only other reports are that of suspicious persons seen around alleyways or looking around gardens. Patrols have been targeted at these locations where reports were made.
- Issues around the building site for the new Brook Mead Academy site have subsided giving us more time to patrol in areas where issues are either still occuring or have began to occur.
- Patrols of the Rally Park and Fosse Recreation Ground continue as part our of routine shifts, please do feel free to stop us and say hello and have a chat!
