Welcome to my monthly update for the residents and communities of the Abbey Ward Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaid - What matters to you

As of the 1st October 2024, the community of Abbey Ward have raised the following concerns which we make priority;

1.  Members of the Community and shop staff have explained that they are concerned about Anti-Social Behaviour, thefts and criminal damage being reported at shops in the area of Belgrave Boulevard and Bewcastle Grove.

This has been reported by residents through Community Beat Surgeries and Neighbourhood Link.

2.  Members of the Community have expressed concerns about the increase in the use of illegal e-scooters in public, particularly in the area of Abbey Rise and Mowmacre.

This has been reported by residents through Community Beat Surgeries and Neighbourhood Link.

3.  Through speaking with the local residents, reports and concerns around vehicle speeding in residential areas including Parker Drive, Halifax Drive and Heacham Drive.

This has been reported by residents through Community Beat Surgeries and Neighbourhood Link.

#WeDid - What we are doing

Your concerns have been viewed and as a Beat Team, we have completed the following;

1.  Multi agency meetings around partnership working with Leicester City Council and the affected businesses in the area to further understand the issues have been completed and the situation is continued to be monitored.

Through investigation and patrols, persons causing some of the issues have been identified and are being dealt with.  Patrols are ongoing.

A Open Joint Action Group meeting was conducted at the Tudor Centre on the 16th of December by the beat team for members of the community to discuss concerns with the beat team and partner agencies.  This was advertised on social media, Neighbourhood Link and through localised poster placement.  Local residents were contacted personally through letter.

10 members of the community attended the meeting and aired concerns.  Most of these have been addressed by the Beat Team and the Council ASB Team.

2.  As a repeat priority, we continue to have increased patrols in these areas, targeting such vehicles and provided advice to users of e-scooters. Persons riding an e-scooter will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.

So far, several e-scooters have been seized due to riders not heading the initial warnings. We continue to monitor and patrol the areas.

Since this Priority was set by the Community, the Team have given words of advice to over 40 people using the vehicles.  The persons age from 14 yrs of age to 43 yrs of age.  We have also seized 6 E-scooters due to no compliance with warning.

We will continue to monitor the situation and take action when appropriate.

3.  Joined up partnership working with the Road Safety Unit where taskings sent to the Road Safety Unit, including using the Special Constabulary.  Multiple speeding operations have been completed in the areas at various times of the day, with residents supporting the operations.

These operations are displayed and shown on social media platforms and through Neighbourhood Link.  The Beat Team will continue to compete checks in the areas and engage with the residents.

Due to concerns around Drivers stopping and using the zig-zag area outside schools, signage has been placed around schools on the beat and visits by the Beat team at appropriate times completed.

In January 2025, we will set new Priorities from completed surveys and feedback from conversations we have had with you at Beat Surgeries.
