Good evening Rutland.
What a busy set of shifts!
Fast roads seems to have been the theme of my week across South Rutland (and way beyond).
After being elated that my little van was back at the start of my set (yes, yes, I know!), and briefly celebrating my 24th year of working for Leicestershire Police, it was straight out to the A1 to a car that had lost a wheel and ground to a halt, and everything took off from there, and hasn't really slowed down yet!!
Alongside existing casework which we all carry, covering the front enquiry desk at Oakham, and responding to numerous emergency incidents across Melton and Rutland, I have managed to conduct speed monitoring in some of my villages (I am responsible for 30) following concerns raised, primarily in Braunston in Rutland, and North Luffenham.
I have been working on some inconsiderate parking issues causing safety concerns in Ketton, and have been looking into concerns raised through our partners around the A47 at the South Luffenham crossroads.
This and so much more really, but ending with another incident on the A1 (thankfully with nobody injured) this evening, needing a lane closure while the good people at Crouch recovery dragged out two cars from the central reservation.
Road safety remains one of our core beat priorities in South Rutland, and with the weather and road conditions hopefully improving over the coming weeks and months we will continue to promote safe and responsible vehicle use, and tackle the problems where they are happening to the best of our abilities.
It has been very busy this week, but then I don't think i've ever known a quiet week in policing to be honest.
We are starting to see the benefit of being back up to strength on officer numbers, meaning that I no longer hold responsibility for Uppingham as a whole, but will retain Uppingham Community College and Uppingham School as a point of contact for them following some really positive work over the past few months.
I will be back for more of the same next week, please do get in touch if there is anything I can help with.
Kindest regards,
PC McKinnon
