Dear Neighbourhood Link Member, Good afternoon, I hope you are well! Crime Report
General Update: We are continuing our High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas which is set out by the government and force generated priorities for Charnwood. This includes Warwick Way Estate, Morrisons and Market Place, McDonalds, German Doner Kebab due to the rise in ASB reports. These patrols consist of carrying a tracker when officers are in the ASB Patrol Car in the evenings.
We have been focusing our other beat patrols on the town centre and the university as there have been an increase in shop theft on our beat. We are working with the retailers and Love Loughborough BID, assisting with help and advice for reporting of crime and encouraging the retailers to sign up to Shop Watch, which is a radio system that is a live link to the town’s CCTV, who can report active/live incidents direct to the police call handlers. With dedication and the persistence of officers, formal identification has been obtained for two local known criminals, who have been located, arrested and charged with the burglaries and shop thefts. 🚔 Subsequently our current stats for burglaries and shop thefts at specific retailers have reduced, which is positive to see but this doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening or that criminals are not out there. REMEMBER to keep all your belongings safe and secure, keep windows and doors locked, even if you are home. Another worrying pattern that is has been noted force wide is that people are having their vehicles stolen or their belongings from the vehicle by the means of Relay theft - Thieves can use specialist equipment to capture the signal transmitted by the vehicle’s electronic key fob. This leaves vehicles with electronic key fobs vulnerable to theft even if they are parked on a driveway or in the street. When not in use, electronic key fobs should be shielded in Faraday pouches to block the electronic signals from interception.
