Weekly Update

Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages.

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

  • High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas
  • On 01/04/25 PC 196 conducted high visibility patrols around Thurmaston retail park due to a car cruise taking place later on in the evening.
  • The beat team have been conducting foot patrols last week around the Thorpebury in the Limes, Thurmaston due to an increase in ASB and burglaries occurring on the site. Whilst soaking in the sun, the officers engaged with local residents and conducted CCTV inquiries so further investigations can take place. Please report any issues or concerns that you may have via 101 or online.
  • As the weather gets warmer, we see an increase in ASB especially involving motorbikes, the beat team are aware of these issues and there is CCTV inquiries and patrols taking place to identity suspects so they can be dealt with. Officers have had a trial bike which failed to stop for them, which travels at 07:50am most week days down Melton Road Thurmaston into Syston. If you see this bike or any dangerous diving, please ring 101 so we can gather more information on the routes.
  • The beat team have been conducting burglary patrols around the NL61 beat, which consists of evening foot and marked car patrols throughout the villages in the residential areas. This is due to an overall increase in burglaries during the winter period. For crime prevention advice please visit the Leicestershire police website!
  • This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.

     Our Priorities

We have engaged with people at the locations and advice has been given regarding issues of anti-social behaviour and use of quad bikes. Work continues around ASB around Thorpebury in the Limes and Sandiacre Drive, providing high visibility patrols to reduce any further reports . Patrols will be modified as appropriate to areas highlighted as a concern through reports submitted to the team.

The community has also stated that speeding and parking issues are a concern at various locations throughout the Charnwood East area. Speed operations have taken place on Barkby Road and Syston Road in Queniborough, Melton road and Broom Lane in East Goscote. Advice signs have been provided to Pochin School and Thrussington School regarding parking on zigzag lines. There were reports of inappropriate parking around Wreak Valley academy at the weekends, patrols have taken place at key times. Further operations are planned in areas highlighted as concerned.
