Weekly Update


Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages.

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

  • High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas
  • On  09/04, PCSO 6024 conducted a beat engagement at the Town hall square in Syston and PCSO 6098 conducted her monthly beat engagement at East Goscote library, where a concern of dangerous driving was raised and will be followed up by the beat team. 
  • On 10/04, PCSO 6098 also conducted a beat engagement at the Town hall square in Syston, engaging with the residents and local businesses. 
  • On 11/04, the beat team conducted patrols around the secondary schools in Thurmaston and Syston. There were no problems reported and all the students were looking forward to their Easter break. 
  • The beat team have been conducting foot patrols last week around the Thorpebury in the Limes, Thurmaston due to an increase in ASB and burglaries occurring on the site. 
  • As the weather gets warmer, we see an increase in ASB especially involving motorbikes, the beat team are aware of these issues and there is CCTV inquiries and patrols taking place to identity suspects so they can be dealt with. Officers have had a trial bike which failed to stop for them, which travels at 07:50am most week days down Melton Road Thurmaston into Syston. If you see this bike or any dangerous diving, please ring 101 so we can gather more information on the routes. 
  • The beat team have been conducting burglary patrols around the NL61 beat, which consists of evening foot and marked car patrols throughout the villages in the residential areas. For crime prevention advice please visit the Leicestershire police website!

    This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area. 

     Our Priorities

    The community have stated that ASB is a concern within The Charnwood East area. The core priorities will remain the same and will be adapted to specific areas as demand dictates, Patrols have continued in areas highlight as concerns with ASB. Particular attention has been made to Sandiacre Drive, Checkland Road and Hill Top Road. We have engaged with people at the locations and advice has been given regarding issues of anti-social behaviour and use of quad bikes. Work continues around ASB around Thorpebury in the Limes and Sandiacre Drive, providing high visibility patrols to reduce any further reports . Patrols will be modified as appropriate to areas highlighted as a concern through reports submitted to the team. 

    The community has also stated that speeding and parking issues are a concern at various locations throughout the Charnwood East area. Speed operations have taken place on Barkby Road and Syston Road in Queniborough, Melton road and Broom Lane in East Goscote. Advice signs have been provided to Pochin School and Thrussington School regarding parking on zigzag lines. There were reports of inappropriate parking around Wreak Valley academy at the weekends, patrols have taken place at key times. Further operations are planned in areas highlighted as concerned.

    And finally ……..

    There has been a recent increase in residential burglaries within Charnwood East area. The team have continued to provide patrols in and around the villages of the Charnwood East beat, Support have been provided by firearms and the dog team as well as the Charnwood NPT. The team continue to work with our CID colleagues to support investigations and provide reassurance to all involved. The team will adjust their patrols plans to incorporate those areas affected to provide reassurance and assist with any enquiries.
