Inspector Perry Update

Neighbourhood Police Commander - Inspector Perry

Welcome to our April edition of the community newsletter! As always, our goal is to keep you informed and engaged with the latest happenings in our local area.

Some great proactive work has taken place this month…

Our neighbourhood proactive team spotted a car speeding and quickly stopped it, discovering drugs and the driver without a licence, no insurance, and driving under the influence of drugs. This followed another recent pursuit where the driver failed to stop for officers before crashing into a ditch and running off. However, Police Dog Bryn from the Northamptonshire Dog Section was nearby and came to the rescue, supporting officers to find property discarded from the vehicle right before the suspects popped out of hiding straight into waiting police officers.

Officers recently also spotted a vehicle on cloned plates believed to be linked to a burglary in Northamptonshire. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was authorised. A short time later, the car was involved in a collision, and three men were arrested at the scene for burglary.

No day is the same for our local officers, who also had a foot chase up and down Leicester Road, dodging between traffic to safely detain NikNak the Pomeranian Puppy. His Paw Patrol day came to a safe conclusion with his relieved owner.

Our local beat officers in Lutterworth were out in force as part of a safer roads traffic operation along with Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Officers and the DVSA. A large number of unsafe vehicles and loads were dealt with throughout the day.

Crime prevention events have been held across the districts with items available that are funded by the community safety partnership. Our PCSOs have delivered personal safety and crime prevention talks to several communities, and beat surgeries have taken place across the area, providing a chance for you to speak with your local PCSOs.

Much of the work carried out to keep residents of the district safe happens behind the scenes and often on a screen, so you may not always see the officers on a daily basis, but it does not mean they’re not working hard to keep you safe.

#WeDid - What we are doing

Road Safety Each month through Neighbourhood Link, our community members tell us about their top priorities for their area through surveys. Consistently, road safety and speeding are voted as the top priority. As such, this month officers have conducted #Fatal4 operations targeting the four main causes of road fatalities: speeding, use of mobile phones whilst driving, seatbelt violations, and driving under the influence. This operation aims to reduce road traffic incidents and promote safer driving habits.

High visibility patrols have taken place across the Wigston, South Wigston, and Oadby beats. These patrols are part of ongoing efforts to ensure community safety and deter crime. Speed Checks have taken place on Manor Road, Oadby. This initiative led to 15 drivers being reported for exceeding the 30mph speed limit. Speeding remains a significant concern, and these checks are crucial for maintaining road safety.

Youth Engagement Through work with our local independent advisory group, it was felt by our communities that school engagement work is crucial in fostering trust in the police and educating youth about safety and legal matters. As such, our best teams have been busy visiting schools, engaging with our young people, and building positive relationships.

Anti-social Behaviour Locations Officers have targeted their patrols in areas across the districts to maintain a visible presence, deter potential criminal activity, and foster the community relationships we have been busy building. Hundreds of hours have been spent by our PCSOs on foot or in vehicles patrolling key areas for speeding and ASB, which are most identified as a priority for residents.
