BIRSTALL & WANLIP - JUNE NEWSLETTER

Birstall & Wanlip - June 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the monthly update for the residents and communities of the Birstall & Wanlip Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA). This newsletter will be circulated on a regular basis and will provide an insight into what is happening at the NPA.

#YouSaidWeDid - What matters to you & what we are doing

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Concerns

The community has raised concerns regarding anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the Birstall ward. While there has been a noticeable reduction in reported incidents at Birstall North Services, we have continued to maintain a strong presence in the area through regular patrols. In addition, high-visibility patrols have been carried out at School Lane playing fields and the village centre to deter ASB and provide reassurance to residents.

Through close partnership working with the local secondary school, a derelict building has been identified as a location where young people have been causing damage. Further work is ongoing to educate those involved and to engage with developers to reduce the risk to the wider public.

As we move into the warmer months, patrols will be increased to address any potential rise in ASB. Our ongoing patrols have also identified Meadow Lane and the Sibson Road car park as emerging hotspots, particularly for the use of nitrous oxide. We remain committed to tackling these issues and ensuring these areas remain safe and welcoming for all members of the community.

Road Safety

Road safety and obstructions—particularly around primary schools—have been raised as key concerns by the community across various areas of Birstall.

In response, the Community Speed Watch initiative is progressing well, thanks to the valuable support of local volunteers. Awareness placards are being placed in targeted locations to encourage safer driving and promote responsible road use.

The local policing team is also working closely with schools to reinforce road safety messages. Schools are being encouraged to share guidance with parents and guardians, and we will be providing educational materials and signage to display at key points to help reinforce these messages.

Together, we aim to create a safer environment for children, parents, and all road users in the community.

Residential Burglaries and Vehicle Crime

Increased Patrols in Response to Burglaries and Vehicle Crime.

Following a recent rise in residential burglaries and vehicle crime across Birstall and the surrounding villages, a new policing priority has been established to address these concerns.

Patrol activity within the beat has been significantly increased and is now supported by traffic and firearms units, along with the Charnwood Neighbourhood Proactive Team. Our officers are actively adjusting patrol plans to focus on the affected areas, offering visible reassurance and working to enhance community safety.

Thanks to the combined efforts of the police and local residents, we have already seen an overall reduction in burglary incidents across the area. This positive trend reflects the strength of our collaborative approach to crime prevention.

We are grateful for the continued support and cooperation of the community as we work together to keep Birstall safe and secure.
