Dear Resident
We wish to bring to your attention a matter of public concern that has recently been raised regarding the speed of vehicles entering Branston on Waltham Road. It has been reported that the speed activation sign in this area has recorded instances of excessive speeds.
In order to evaluate and address these concerns, I have dedicated time over the past few days to monitor vehicle speeds and conduct checks. On Saturday, June 21st, I conducted a speed assessment for a duration of thirty minutes, beginning at 12:00 PM. During this time, I observed three vehicles entering the 30 mph zone at speeds of 37, 40, and 41 mph. Subsequently, I returned on Monday, June 23rd, between 4:50 PM and 5:50 PM, during which I recorded approximately 30 vehicles entering the village along Waltham Road. Of these, 14 vehicles were noted to have entered at the following speeds: 37, 39, 38, 26, 41, 41, 39, 41, 41, 34, 39, 37, 40, and 34 mph. Notably, three of these vehicles are registered to residents of Branston, with two located on Waltham Road, while an additional five vehicles are registered in nearby villages. Speeding advice letters will be in the post.
Ensuring road safety remains a top priority for the Melton Rural North Beat, which encompasses 39 villages. We are aware of several locations that are experiencing similar speeding concerns. As such, we will be returning to Branston in the future to conduct further road safety initiatives and enforcement.
Thank you to those motorists that were adhering to the speed limit. As a good proportion were local drivers, please slow down and together, we can work towards ensuring the safety of your community.
Kind Regards, PCSO Claire Gray 6541 Melton Rural North
