Weekly Update

Dear Neighbourhood Link Member,

Good Afternoon, and I hope you are well!

Here is an update on neighbourhood policing in Syston, Thurmaston and surrounding villages.

What have the neighbourhood team been doing?

  • High Visibility/Reassurance Patrols – in our ‘hot spot’ areas
  • PCSO 6024 and 6098 attended a new residential home for young people and were able to engage with staff and the youths to build a better relationship.
  • After a report of an abandoned vehicle on the road in Thurmaston, officers attended the location and completed checks on the vehicle. The vehicle was shown to be SORN and consequently the vehicle was removed.
  • On  23/06, PCSO 6098 conducted a beat engagement at East Goscote Village hall, where concerns and issues were raised by local residents. These concerns will be progressed by the beat team.
  • The beat team continue to conduct foot patrols around the Thorpebury in the Limes, Thurmaston due to an increase in ASB.

As the weather gets warmer, we see an increase in ASB especially involving motorbikes, the beat team are aware of these issues and there is CCTV inquiries and patrols taking place to identity suspects so they can be dealt with.

The beat team have been conducting burglary patrols around the NL61 beat, which consists of evening foot and marked car patrols throughout the villages in the residential areas. For crime prevention advice please visit the Leicestershire police website!

This is just a selection of what the neighbourhood team have been doing, we have also been completing crime investigations, partnership working with other agencies and engaging with residents and businesses in the area.

     Our Priorities

The community have stated that ASB is a concern within The Charnwood East area. In response to growing concerns from residents about anti-social behaviour in the Charnwood East area, particularly in Thurmaston, a series of proactive measures have been implemented. Joint visits have been carried out at The Styles and Offranville Close, where officers engaged directly with members of the community to listen to their concerns and offer support. A leaflet drop was also completed in the area, aimed at gathering valuable intelligence related to drug use and other ASB-related issues. In addition, enquiries are ongoing into reports of youths riding quad bikes in a dangerous or disruptive manner. This behaviour not only poses a significant safety risk but also contributes to noise and general nuisance within the neighbourhood. To provide visible reassurance and deter further incidents, high-visibility patrols have been significantly increased in key hotspot areas, including Checkland Road, Thurmaston Retail Park, Hilltop Road, and Barkby. Patrols will continue at these locations, as well as any newly identified areas, to maintain a visible presence and ensure the ongoing safety of the community.

Speeding and parking issues have been raised as ongoing concerns by residents across several areas in Charnwood East. In response, targeted enforcement and monitoring activities have been carried out to address these issues and improve road safety. A speed and safety enforcement van has been deployed along key routes including the A607 Newark Road in Thurmaston and Melton Road in Rearsby. In addition, speed checks have been conducted on Main Street in South Croxton, with further monitoring in Queniborough and South Croxton to address persistent speeding concerns. Officers have also visited the junction of Humberstone Lane and Newark Street following reports of drivers running red lights. These actions form part of a wider strategy to tackle road safety concerns, and further operations are planned in areas that have been highlighted by the community as needing attention.

    And finally ……..

There has been no increase in burglary dwelling incidents reported this month, which is a positive development for the community. However, the team remains vigilant and continues to work closely with our CID colleagues to support ongoing investigations and provide reassurance to all affected parties.
In response to recent incidents, patrol plans are being adjusted to include the areas impacted, ensuring a consistent and visible police presence. This approach aims to deter further offences, assist with enquiries, and maintain community confidence.
