NL56 Beat – Burglary Alert & Crime Prevention Advice

Officers on the NL56 Beat would like to make residents aware of a recent increase in burglary offences in the Cropston and Thurcaston areas.

The recent incidents suggest that offenders are specifically targeting properties that are unoccupied and currently undergoing renovation. Items being stolen include newly installed or stored white goods such as fridges, ovens, and washing machines.

Entry is being gained by offenders using a variety of methods including:

Lock snapping

Dismantling door hardware

Lock picking techniques

🔒 Crime Prevention Advice

If you own, manage, or are renovating a property, please consider the following steps to reduce the risk:

Ensure all doors have high-quality, anti-snap locks fitted (BS3621 standard where possible)

Fit temporary monitored alarm systems where properties are empty

Install CCTV or video doorbells to deter offenders and capture evidence

Use timer switches on lights to give the impression the property is occupied

Avoid leaving new appliances or valuable materials visible through windows

Arrange for someone to regularly check the property

Secure windows and consider additional measures such as window locks or boards if the property is vacant for a prolonged period

Keep a record of serial numbers and photographs of valuable items
