Dear Resident,

We’re often asked who does what in policing, so here’s a quick guide 
 

Response Officers 

Response officers are the teams who respond to 999 and 101 calls across the area.

They deal with:
• Emergencies
• Crimes in progress
• Incidents where there is an immediate risk

They’re always on the move, working across the area to make sure urgent situations are dealt with as quickly as possible.
 

Dedicated Neighbourhood Officers and Police Community Support Officers 

Your Neighbourhood Teams, are assigned to South Wigston, Wigston and Oadby, focusing on long-term issues that matter to you.

They:
• Work closely with the local council, housing associations, residents, schools, and local businesses
• Tackle ongoing concerns like anti-social behaviour, drug activity, and community safety issues
• Act on local intelligence
• Carry out patrols in hotspot areas
• Build relationships and trust in the community

Because they’re area-based, you’ll often see the same officers out and about.

Working Together for your Community 

Both teams play a vital role:
• Response officers deal with the here and now
• Dedicated Neighbourhood Officers focus on preventing problems, tackling ongoing issues and improving your local area long-term
