Another great example of the public and police working together! |

PC 593 Ockenden and PC 731 Mazuryk were on mobile patrol when they were waved down by concerned members of the public. The caller was already on the phone to 999 and reported that they had seen a driver slumped over the steering wheel who appeared drunk. When they attempted to speak to him, he decided his best option was to drive away... spoiler alert: it wasn't. Armed with information from the witnesses and details of where the vehicle had triggered an ANPR camera, the officers carried out an area search.
After a short hunt, and thanks to some top-tier eagle eyes from the officers, the vehicle was spotted at a local petrol station. In what can only be described as a poor choice of pit stop, the driver got out of the driver's seat and began filling up his vehicle — straight into the sights of PC Ockenden and PC Mazuryk.
The male was arrested at the scene, subsequently provided a roadside breath test and blew over the legal limit. He was then taken into custody.
A huge thank you to the members of the public who reported what they saw. This result highlights exactly what can happen when people trust their instincts, provide information quickly, and work with us to keep our roads safe. Your information, combined with swift police action, helped remove a suspected drink driver from our roads before anyone was hurt.
