Open Water Safety Patrols

Good evening

As part of Forest Beat’s priority regarding open water safety, I took the opportunity to visit Albert Village Lake today. I am pleased to report that all was well, with no issues identified during the patrol.

I realise we have previously posted numerous times regarding open water safety, however, I feel this is a message that can never be shared too often. Sadly, every year people get into difficulty in open water, and a simple reminder may help prevent a tragedy.

Please remember:

Never enter the water unless it is a designated and supervised swimming area.

Water temperatures can be dangerously cold, even during warm weather.

Keep children under close supervision near lakes, ponds, rivers and reservoirs.

Avoid swimming alone and never enter the water under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If you see someone in difficulty, call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service. Encourage them to float on their back if possible, but do not enter the water yourself.

We will be regularly visiting and patrolling areas of open water throughout the summer months, including Albert Village Lake, Hicks Lodge and our local canals, helping to promote safety and engage with those enjoying these popular locations.

We want everyone to enjoy our local beauty spots safely and responsibly throughout the summer.
